However, completing a driver ed course is recommended for adult drivers to improve their knowledge of road rules, enhance safety skills and prepare for the written Adult Permit test.

Do I have to complete the course in one sitting?

No, the system will save your progress each time you log off, allowing you to learn at your own pace.

What else do I need to apply for my permit?

You also need an Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship, your Social Security number and two acceptable forms of identification.

When will I receive my certificate of completion?

Your certificate of completion will be available in your course dashboard to download and print five days after finishing the course. If you need the certificate immediately, you can upgrade to instant digital download for an additional fee. You are responsible for submitting the certificate to the Colorado DMV to become eligible for your permit.

How long will I have to complete the online course?

You have 180 days (about six months) from the registration date to complete the 30-hour course. Please note that you must enter your Colorado Pre-Registration code when you begin the course. It may take up to two business days to validate your information before you can start training.

Do I need a Colorado permit if I possess an out-of-country permit or an international license/permit?

Yes. You cannot take behind-the-wheel (BTW) training or complete the Basic Operator Skills Drive Test (BOSD) for your driver license with an out-of-country permit or an international license or permit. Colorado drivers are now required to complete a 30-Hour Colorado Driver Education course and earn a Colorado permit to qualify for BTW or BOSD.
